Cranston

Cranston Print Works, Sprague Mansion and the Knightsville/Arlington area share a rich economic and social history. Though the factors that drive our economy have changed over the past three centuries, the natural and social fabric of this area remains and creates a strong foundation for 21st century vitality. KeepSpace will breathe new life into this historic community where people can continue to walk to work, school and church and connect more easily to other cities, towns and neighborhoods.

The KeepSpace Community Design Plan will work to:

• Update mill buildings to meet the economic and environmental needs of the 21st century.

• Reinforce the historical assets of the neighborhood.

• Reunite and enhance connectivity between Cranston Print Works, Knightsville Square, the Sprague Mansion, the bike path, churches, businesses and residences to achieve a walkable, healthy and vibrant neighborhood.

• Reconnect residents and visitors to the Pocasset River and beautiful Print Works pond and waterfall, offering access to recreation and clean energy.

• Use the natural and historic elements, and new business opportunities, as a unifying force to bring the community together.

• Enhance the existing character of the community with nice homes and local businesses.

• Establish a stronger economic and tax base for the city by creating new opportunities for businesses and incorporating live/work spaces.

• Provide resources for existing residents to participate in the neighborhood renewal.

• Build and improve upon Cranston’s existing infrastructure to better connect the neighborhood to the broader city, state, regional and national communities.

• Encourage living, working and playing within the community.
